With reference to my letter of the 28th ultimo

I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to trans-

mit to you, to be laid before the Secretary of State

for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His Maj-

14.7 1 baty's Minister at Peking, enclosing a despatch which

has been addressed to the Government of Hongkong by

the Acting British Consul General at Canton, on the

subject of the Hung Ch'üan Fu murder case.

Lord Lansdowne proposes, if Mr. Secretary Lyt-

telton concurs, to approve Mr. Campbell's proceed-

ings in the matter.
